The 10 Best Business Books for Entrepreneurs

Are you looking for that next great book that
could potentially change your life and change your business? Hi, my name is Lisa Larter and welcome to
the this weeks edition of Shop Talk. I have a secret that I want to share with you. You
may or may not know this but I am a high school dropout. I never finished high school. I quit
half way through my last year and I built a pretty amazing life in business and I attribute
it to one thing, I read a lot of books. Not only do I read books, I implement what the
books tell me to do in my life and my business and it works. One day somebody asked me an
author, a famous author why I wasn’t in one of her programs and I said plain and simple,
I don’t need your program, I read the book and I did the works.
I want to share with you today 10 powerful books that I have read over the last year
and a little bit some of them I read multiple times and tell you why I think they are a
great book for you to read too. The first book that I want to talk about is
The Success Principles by Jack Canfield. I read this book 10 years ago when I still had
a job and I really wished that I was an entrepreneur, I really wished that I owned my own business,
I really wished that I had financial freedom, that I own a house someplace warm and sunny,
and that my home was on the ocean. 10 years ago those are things I wrote down as big,
[inaudible 00:01:40] goals while I was reading this book and 10 years later every single
thing that I aspired to has actually happened. I am reading the Success Principles for the
second time right now and I have to say I am picking up great ideas second time around
as well. The second book that I want to talk to you
about is Big Magic by Elizabeth Gilbert. A lot of people think that Big Magic is just
for creatives and author types but I’ll tell you Big Magic is packed full of juicy, juicy
ideas. Things like idea fairies that tap you on the shoulder for your business and then
when you engage with them and then you stop engaging, all of sudden you see those ideas
happening in somebody else business. Fantastic book for harnessing your ideas and taking
creative action every single day. Highly recommended. Third book on my list is the Gifts of Imperfection
by Brene Brown. Now I got to tell you I’ve read all of Brene’s books, Gifts of Imperfection,
Daring Greatly, Rising Strong, they are all amazing but the reason I put the Gifts of
Imperfection is the one book by her on my list and not all bunch of books by her is
because it’s the starting step. We need to deal with perfectionism and see how our imperfections
are actually gifts in our life before we are ready for the rest. While I endorse all 3
books, I would start with the Gifts of Imperfection. This is the first book that I ever bought
that I went back to the store and I immediately bought 10 more copies for people who are really
important to me in my life and I gave them all away because I thought the book was that
powerful. The fourth book that I want to talk to you
about is Influence by Robert Cialdini. Influence by Robert Cialdini is an amazing book and
I had the privilege of meeting Robert Cialdini and he is an amazing man in person too and
I’ll tell you a secret, he is working on another book. Influence has sold over 5 million copies
and it talks about how persuasion works, why we make decisions we make, how we are influenced
by things subconsciously that we don’t even realize. It’s a great book for you to read
to understand human psychology and you’ll get some ideas for your business out of this
book as well. That would be Eddie saying, “Hello to you and hopefully he is not going
to work.” The next book that I’d like to talk to you
about is an all time favorite and classic but I have a confession, it took me years
to get through this book. I don’t think I was ready to read it and that book is Think
and Grow Rich by Napoleon Hill. I got to tell you when I read that book my eyes and my mind
were opened wide. I even went as far as to buy the workbook to go with the books so that
I could do the exercises in the book. This classic is powerful in terms of realizing
what you can do with your mind and understanding the power of a mastermind. I highly suggest
you read this book and if reading is not your thing, maybe you’ll listen to it on audio
but I got to tell you it is a powerful life changing book.
The next book is The Go Giver by Bob Burg. The Go Giver is a fabulous book about what
happens when we give instead of focusing on what we want. Often we are so consumed by
what we want in our life and we obsess over what we don’t have. The Go Giver will turn
that around and show you how to make significant changes in your life.
After that I would say read What to Say When You Talk to Yourself by Shad Helmstetter.
We have an itty bitty shitty that goes on inside of our head and it criticizes our every
move everyday. The good news is you can learn how to harness that committee and change the
things that you say to yourself. This book is another classic written by a psychologist.
I highly suggest it because what gets in the way of an entrepreneur success is their mind,
it’s their belief in themselves that really makes the difference in the want entrepreneur
and the successful entrepreneur. The next book that I’m going to recommend
is Mindset by Carol Dweck. Another really great book about your thoughts and how what
you think matters. I think Mindset is a must read for anyone who wants the ultimate freedom
of running their own business because the ultimate freedom also means the ultimate responsibility
and Mindset will teach you a lot about how you need to think.
The last 2 books that I’m going to talk to you about are really good and I keep looking
at my list because I can’t remember all 10. Number 9 is Double Double by Cameron Herold.
Fantastic book. He is going to teach you how to double your business in 3 years and it’s
easy. He is also going to give you an exercise on how to come up with a compelling vision
for your business. Why is a compelling vision important? Because when you’re only looking
at a tactic, that’s not enough to sustain your inspiration and motivation long term.
But when you have a compelling vision that’s way out there, let me tell you it’s amazing
how your behavior shifts when you are focusing on something on the horizon versus the task
at hand. The last book I’m going to suggest is Money:
Master The Game by Tony Robbins. There is a lot of entrepreneurs that put their head
in the sand when it comes to money and the truth is you don’t have a business until you
turned a profit. Businesses are about an exchange of a product or service for money. The whole
reason you go into business for yourself so that you can make money to support the lifestyle
that you want. Money is not the root of all evil. Money is actually a really good thing.
There you go, 10 books that I highly recommend and I couldn’t wrap up this video without
mentioning my book, Pilot to Profit. If you want to learn the nitty gritty about how to
start a business and market your business online, I highly suggest you pick up a copy
of my book as well. One thing is for sure you can never lose out on a time you invest
in reading because when you read what you will learn stays in your subconscious mind
and will help you along the road. 2 years down the road you might recall something you
read in a book 3 years ago and who knows that may come in super handy exactly when you need
it. I am a life long avid reader. This is the
third post that I’ve done on books. There is another one that I did a few years ago,
it’s a video on 5 books that I still highly recommend and one a little bit before that
on 6 books that I highly recommend. If you take a look at those 2 and those are in the
blog, you got what 21 books you could read this year. Think how smart you’d be if you
read 21 books, you’d be a rockstar. Anyways thanks for watching this video of Shop Talk.
I want to hear from you now. Jump on over to the blog and tell me what are the top 3
books that you have read in your life and how they have impacted you. I want to know
what those books are. I’m curious and I’m always on the hunt for a new juicy book to
read. Thanks for watching this video and I’ll see you again next week.
