[music] My name is Charles Carmes and I’m from France. And I’m a third-year graduate student at MIT in the department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science. So currently I’m in Russia. I’m in St. Petersburg. I’m working at ITMO University, which is a technical university that has a good physics department. And I’m working under the supervision of Professor Andre Bogdanov. The reason I wanted to go to Russia is that not really that there is anything in particular that I would not be able to find at MIT, but it’s very convenient to find people that are specialists in what I want to do. Since I want to work as an academic, or work generally in the field, research Maybe in the U.S., or maybe in Europe. I haven’t decided yet. It is very important to know how to build collaborations between groups, especially on an international scale. So I took the opportunity of this experience to try to learn this as well. [music] I think St. Petersburg is one of the most beautiful cities in the world. It was only founded a couple hundred years ago. 300 years ago, I think, by Peter the Great. It has beautiful bridges. In the summer the sun never sets. It’s always bright outside. People are happy during the summer because it’s so bright and so beautiful. It’s full of palaces everywhere. It’s really a dream-like city. I only have the Russian experience, but I would even just recommend MISTI Russia. I think Russia is one of the most interesting countries to go to. People are extremely nice. Especially if you can learn a little bit of the language before going. There are things related to food, how people behave, are slightly different that I just embraced and I accepted as a feature of the country. And that I enjoy so far. [music] I would say that there are more Europeans overall. I would say in their professional relationships, they are much more straightforward, when it comes to addressing issues or saying things. Most of them have hobbies. They have Dacha. It’s like, part of their identity. So, apart from work they have this identity. which defines them. I would say that they happen to take much more free time, let’s say, and to enjoy life more overall, I would say. [off-camera] Is there anything else you would like to add? Come to Russia.
