  1. He doesn't really listen. He's too busy hearing his own voice echo through his vacuous soul.

  2. Thank you so much for the upload…beautiful to hear him read the Witness and other poems we love…My extreme favourite, however, is Traveling Together which I once recited in group completely mixed up and neverheless it sounded great – he is a genius…
(..If we are separated, I will wait for you on your side of things, your side of the wall and the water and of the light moving at its own speed…It is soooo beautifully going on, but do not remember in which book I had found it..)

  3. Don't know that Mr. Merwin knew it was your birthday, but I'm sure he'd be pleased that it's on your wish list. He is simply an astonishing poet. If you enjoyed this show, try watching the edition of The Writing Life with Jane Hirshfield, who has a take on the natural world that is similar to Merwin's.

  4. Can't wait for his two volume "Library of America" set to come out on May 16 2013. It will be a fitting birthday present; I turn 37 that day.

  5. Hi, We agree. He's one of the most amazing poets – so kind and gentle in person. If you enjoyed this show, try our piece on Jane Hirshfield — she's great.
    Thanks for watching,
