Learn How to Use the Writings of Ellen G. White, Part 1 – Pr. Stephen Bohr

well welcome once again we're gonna take a look now at the Battle of Armageddon from three sources source number one revelation 16 source number 2 Exodus 14 and 15 and source number three the spirit of prophecy and my main objective is to illustrate how to discover where Ellen White comments on different aspects of Bible prophecy even though she does not quote the verses so let's begin at the top of the page the name of the document is the Battle of Armageddon the importance of literary structure in the study of typology how Ellen White interprets biblical typology now let's go through some tips that we need to take into account in order to understand the Battle of Armageddon number one look for the pattern or the broader picture and how all of the individual pieces fit together don't merely look for events but rather for the sequence or order of events for example when you find Elijah passage passages in Scripture study the entire Elijah story so we're gonna have to look at some Old Testament stories in their entirety this will become clearer as we go along secondly learn the Old Testament story well because it is the foundation for the typological application number three don't assume that Ellen White will quote the verses or even necessarily use their language we Illustrated that with the 24 elders and finally learn to ask questions about the passage for example I asked the question why does revelation 15 say that the hundred and forty-four thousand will sing the song of Moses in the lamb what will the final deliverance have to do with Moses is it possible that the final deliverance will follow the same pattern as the deliverance of Israel at the time of the Exodus I believe that that's the case now let's introduce the subject by saying that the book of Revelation describes seven devastating plagues that will fall upon planet earth after the door of human probation has closed and of course that door probation is described in Revelation 15 verses 5 through 8 now these plagues will do much damage in fact to a great degree they will return the earth to the condition it was in before creation weak without form and void darkness and empty in the present study I would like us to study the final three of these plagues that will decimate and desolate planet Earth slightly before the second coming of Christ we will study this subject from three different perspectives and look for parallels in the thematic structure the first perspective that we're going to look at is Revelation 16 verses 10 through 21 that's where plagues number 5 6 and 7 are mentioned in Revelation the second source is Exodus 14 and 15 those two chapters have a very close relationship with the last three plagues of Revelation and then we're going to look at the book the great controversy pages 6:35 to 637 because there is where Ellen White quotes and actually comments on plagues number 5 6 and 7 now let's go to model number 1 Revelation chapter 16 verses 10 and 11 and you have the verse in your material so let's read that verse then the fifth angel poured out his bowl and the throne of the beast I have underlined some very important words the fifth angel poured out his bowl and the throne of the Beast and his kingdom became full of darkness and they gnawed their tongues because of the pain they blaspheme the God of heaven because of their pains and their what and their sores and did not repent of their deeds now there's several things that we need to take a look at in these two verses we need to determine where the throne of the Beast is what the kingdom of the Beast is why this mentions them you know knowing their tongues in pain and the fact that they did not repent even when this plague film so let's examine some important details about the fifth plank the beast under the sixth plague is the same as the Beast of Revelation 13 in other words the Beast under the 6th and 5th planks is the same as the Beast of Revelation 13 and the little Horn of Daniel 7 that spoke blasphemies against the Most High persecuted the Saints of the Most High thought it could change times in law and ruled for a period of 1260 years in other words the Beast that is mentioned here in this plague is the Roman Catholic papacy because that's what the little horn and that's what the Beast represents so now we know what the Beast represents it is a worldwide system of apostate Christianity now the question is where is the throne of the Beast we know that the Beast is the papacy but where is the throne of the Beast well the throne is where the center of government is right so where does this beast rule from the fact is that he rules from Vatican City within the confines of the ancient city of Rome so when it says that when it speaks about the throne of the Beast it's talking particularly about a darkness that falls upon the throne of the Beast in other words a plague of darkness however the darkness spreads it's not only over the throne it's over his entire kingdom and so we have to ask where is the kingdom of this beast that rules from his throne there are several verses that define his kingdom notice Revelation chapter 3 13 and verse 3 revelation 13 and verse 3 we're going to look at the kingdom of this beast that rules from Rome and there are four verses that we're going to take a look at and I saw one of his heads as if it had been mortally wounded and his deadly wound was healed and all of Fresno Fresno – and all the world marveled and followed the Beast so let me ask you where's the kingdom over which territory does the Beast rule over the world notice Revelation chapter 13 and verse 7 the same idea speaking about the Beast it says it was granted to him to make war with the Saints and to overcome them and authority was given him over every tribe tongue and nation so there you have the kingdom once again it is a global worldwide Kingdom and then you have revelation 17 and verses 1 and 2 once again the same idea all over again then one of the seven angels who had the seven bowls came and talked with me saying come I will show you the judgment of the great harlot who sits where who sits on many waters with whom the kings of the earth committed fornication and the inhabitants of the earth were made drunk with the wine of her fornication now what do the waters represent well we go to revelation 17 verse 15 the very context indicates what the waters represent it says in Revelation chapter 17 and verse 15 then he said to me the waters which you saw where the harlot sits are people's multitudes nations and tongues what does the act of sitting represent the act of sitting means that she what she rules in fact we find in Revelation 18 verse 24 it says that she rules over the kings of the earth it's the city that rules over the kings of the earth in other words the the Beast represents the papacy the center of its government or its throne is in Rome and it's kingdom covers the whole world are you following me or not in other words it is a global Kingdom and what is the plague that falls upon the throne of the Beast and spreads across his entire kingdom it is a plague of darkness this is not normal darkness this is a supernatural and global darkness that falls upon his entire kingdom now in the dark darkness falls upon the throne of the Beast system its members know their tongues in pain and God sends them a panic that will lead them to kill one another with weapons they intended on using to destroy God's people now for that we need to go back to the Old Testament because the Old Testament has the complete passage you know revelation has the source that knowing the tongue and it has sores in the body but the source for that is found in the Old Testament so we have to go to the book of Zechariah chapter 14 and verses 12 and 13 where you find this this plague amplified or explained it says there in ruins a Cariah 14 12 and 13 and this shall be the plague which the Lord with which the Lord will strike all the people who fought against Jerusalem now how do we understand Jerusalem here we understand Jerusalem as being God's worldwide church right in other words the book of Zechariah says Jerusalem but when this is applied in Revelation it is globalized and spiritualize you understand the principle it's vitally important and we apply it everywhere in Scripture and now notice what the plague is and the plague falls because they have fought against Jerusalem they have fought against God's people it says their flesh shall dissolve why they stand on their feet their eyes shall dissolve in their sockets and their tongues shall dissolve in their mouths why do you suppose it afflicts the tongue because they use their tongue to utter lies and notice what else it says it shall come to pass in that day remember this because we're going to come back to this when we read from the spirit of prophecy it shall come to pass in that day that a great panic from the Lord will be among them were they trying to fight against Jerusalem yes or no you know they were trying to fight against Jerusalem but lo and behold something happens here they get sores all over their bodies they get sores in their mouths because they spoken lies and we're told that God sends him a great panic and we're told in the last part of the verse everyone will seize the hand of his neighbor and raise his hand against his neighbor's hand in other words they will not use the weapons against God's people they will use the weapons against one another by the way has probation closed at this point yes because we are told that when this plague fell they did not repent in other words they are beyond repentance now that's blank number five yeah if the plague number five clear in your mind now let's go to plague number six plague number six we're not going to read the entire passage revelation 16 verses 12 through 16 it would take us far beyond where we have the time to go but the central themes of Revelation 16 verses 12 through 16 are the waters of the Euphrates drying up to prepare the way for the Chinese to come and attack Israel no no no yeah you laugh because we've already been through all of the principles no the waters of the Euphrates are dried up to prepare the way for the arrival of the kings of the East or the Kings from these incidentally in the Greek it doesn't say Kings from the east in the Greek it says Kings from the Rising Sun in other words there are two words Anatole hello in other words for the Kings that come from the Sun rising you know Louis where has a book that's called the Kings that come from the Sun rising it's a smaller book so let's read revelation 16 and verse 12 it says then the sixth angel poured out his bowl and the great river Euphrates and its water was dried up so the plague falls on the Euphrates and the water of the fairies is dried up and when the waters dried up there's it's it's to prepare the way it says for the kings from the east so those are the three main points I want you to remember it falls on the river Euphrates the water is dried up to prepare the way for the coming of the kings of the east of course we need to ask the question what is represented by the Euphrates we're not talking about the literal river Euphrates because in the Old Testament it's the Euphrates but in the New Testament this is globalized in other words do you freitas is a symbolic Euphrates it is not a literal Euphrates and so we need to determine what is represented by the Euphrates the second point that we need to determine is what is meant by the drying up of its waters what does the drying up of the Euphrates mean and the third point that we want to take a look at is who are the kings from the east or from the Sun rising and how is the way prepared for their arrival now the only way that we can answer these questions is by going back to an Old Testament story we have to go back to the fall of Babylon in the days of King Belshazzar because that's one of the backgrounds that we find to the drying up of the afraid ease and the six plank of Revelation so in order to answer these questions we must study the story of the fall of ancient Babylon the story is found in Daniel 5 Jeremiah 50 and 51 Isaiah 41 and also helpful are the stories given by historians Xenophon and Herodotus now all of these sources put together indicate the way in which ancient Babylon literal Babylon failed by the way literal babble babble on was on the literal river Euphrates the waters of the Euphrates literally dried up to prepare the way for Cyrus and his armies to come from the east you're dealing with literal realities in the Old Testament story the Euphrates River in antiquity was the greatest asset of Babylon but it was also its greatest potential liability you see as long as the river flowed and the the city was seated on the waters it was an asset but if the waters were ever dried up it would be a great liability secondly Babylon was practicing idolatry and false worship and drinking wine the night of its fall does that sound familiar is that going to be happening worldwide at the end of time absolutely is there going to be false worship sure to the beast and his image is there going to be idolatry you know we talked to for example about the counterfeit Sabbath that has been created by the hands of man for worship anything that man makes for worship is an idol because man cannot make anything for worship only God can make things for worship and is there going to be wine involved at the end of time oh yeah the harlot is going to be giving wine to all of the nations and so you know that the story of ancient Babylon is going to be repeated on a larger global scale scale only that the wine is not earnest and hello the wine is representative it is symbolic it is not wine that you get from a winery it represents something now the next point is that Syrus came with his armies from the north but he arrived from the east and he dried up the riverbed of the Euphrates by diverting it to the channels that had been built outside the city you see the Babylonians had built channels outside the city because sometimes the Euphrates River was at flood stage and so it would flood the city so what they did was build channels that went around the city so that when there was too much water in the river part of the water would go down the channels and it would not flood the city and so what happened is that Cyrus and his armies dried up the riverbed of the Euphrates by diverting the river into the channels that had been built outside the city and that night the gates to the city had been left open the Greek historians tell us that and because the gates that went down to the bottom of the river that protected the river protected Babylon had been left open Cyrus and his armies entered the city Babylon fell and King Belshazzar was killed that very night and then God's people were delivered and they were bare they were able to go back to Jerusalem are you starting to catch an interesting picture now this scenario is applied symbolically and globally in Revelation chapter 17 let's ask some questions about revelation 17 which of the seven angels speaks to John in revelation 17 verse one will formulate the questions and then we'll look for the answers it says there that one of the seven angels who had the plagues came back to talk to John the question is which of the seven came back to talk to John the next question what does a harlot represent in Scripture then we need to ask what does prophecy me when it says that she fornicates with the kings of the earth what is the name of the harlot woman what are the waters upon which the harlot sits and what will the kings end up doing with Arnot the kings that supported her in her endeavor something's going to happen with those kings what are they going to eventually do with the harlot let's seek for answers to our questions revelation 17 verses 1 & 2 it says there then one of the seven angels who had the seven bowls came and talked with me so it's one of the seven plague angels that comes back to talk with John and the question is which of the seven you say how can we find out which of the seven angels it is is it the angel that poured out the first ball is it the angel that poured out the third Bowl is it the angel that poured out the fifth Bowl or the seventh Bowl how can we know which of the seven came back to talk with John we can know and you're going to see the reason why so it says then one of the seven angels who had the seven bowls came and talked with me saying saying to me come I will show you the judgment of the great harlot who what who sits on many waters saw the harlot sits on what on many waters and this chapter is about the judgment against her with whom the kings of the earth committed what fornication and the inhabitants of the earth were made drunk with the wine of her fornication what is the wine false doctrine false doctrine so we're all nations contaminated with her doctrines where they made drunk yes they were and she sits on many waters now what are the many waters the many waters are multitudes nations tongues and people's now what is the name of this harlot revelation 17 verse 5 tell us tells us what her name is and on her forehead a name was written mystery was her name now Babylon the Great the mother of harlots and of the abominations of the earth so what is the name of harlot mystery and then what babbling the harlots name is Babylon and where does she sit she sits on many waters and she gives wine to the waters – now what do the waters represent well reverend revelation 17 verse 15 tells us what the waters represent let's read that verse revelation 17 verse 15 then he said to me the waters which you saw where the harlot sits are people's multitudes nations and tongues so now we know what the waters represent so let's let's get this picture in our minds you have this harlot and her name is what babbling she's sitting upon multitudes nations tongues and people's the waters she sits upon the waters and she's given wine to the multitudes now let me ask you what is the name of the waters upon which the harlot sits well it's very simple this is Babylon so where was Babylon seated in in Old Testament times as well as today where was babbling seated under Euphrates so so let me ask you then here in Revelation chapter 17 the harlot is sitting on many waters which means that she is sitting on the Euphrates and now we know which angel comes back in chapter 17 we have to look for the angel who poured out his bowl under Euphrates are you following me or not yes because if she seems out many waters her name is Babylon and the waters were the Euphrates then the angel that we have to find in chapter 16 is the one that poured out his bowl on the afraid ease and which was the angel that poured out his bowl on the Euphrates number 6 and so chapter 17 is an amplification of the six plank are you following me it is an amplification of the six plague now for a while if you reach after 17 the harlot and the Kings are having a jolly good time the Kings are supporting her they're doing what she tells them to do the multitudes they're real happy following what the harlot says they enjoy drinking the wine that she gives them but suddenly something is going to happen Revelation chapter 17 and verse 16 notice this in Revelation 16 you have the drying up of the Euphrates in chapter 17 it is described in a different way it says there revelation 17 verse 16 the Kings will what the ten horns which you saw on the Beast these will hate the harlot and make her desolate and naked and eat her flesh and burn her with fire that's a way of saying that they're pretty manager they are going to be infuriated suddenly what do they go they withdraw their support from the harlot something happens that causes them to say you are not going to support you anymore and so they withdraw their support that is what is meant by the drying up of the Euphrates you see if though you Freddy's represents multitudes nations tongues and people's as long as the river flows and she sits in the waters oh everything goes well but at some point those waters that she rules over multitudes nations tongues and peoples are going to withdraw their support from her and they're gonna leave her desolate and naked the kings are going to dry up on her are you following me that's what it's meant by the six plank and then you have the seventh plank revelation 16 17 to 21 notice the details are we doing well so far notice the details thus then the seventh angel poured out his bowl into the air and a loud voice came out of the Temple of Heaven from the throne saying it is done and when that voice speak in other words what that voice is saying the persecution of my people is over that's it I'm going to deliver my people and there were noises and thunderings and lightnings and there was a great earthquake such a mighty and great earthquake as had not occurred since men were on the earth now the great city was divided into three parts how many parts this babbling am here's three the dragon the beast and the false prophet the kings the papacy an apostate Protestantism was it United before this where the word of thirty United yes but suddenly under the sixth and seventh planes what is going to happen the city is gonna be divided and there are gonna fight against against each other so it says now the great city was divided into three parts and the cities of the nation's fell and great Babylon was remembered before God to give her the cup of the wine of the fierceness of his wrath then every island fled away and the mountains were not found remember these details and great hell from heaven fell upon men each hailstone about the weight of a talent men blaspheme God because of the plague of the hill since that plague was exceedingly great so under the seventh plague you have God's voice speaking you have noises thundering lightning an earthquake and Babylon is divided into three parts whereas before the dragon the reason the false prophet were on the same page now the three are divided and then you have islands disappearing and you have mountains disappearing because of of the wrath of God that is being poured out so that is the scenario that we find in Revelation chapter 16 and the explanation in chapter 17 now we need to go to our second model that helps us understand a little better what we just studied about the fall of Babylon there's a second background to this story and it's found in exodus chapters 14 and 15 believe it or not do you remember that we said that we need to study the Elijah story and we just study the Exodus story and the fall of Babel and story see these are recurrence korie's in in the book of Revelation as well as in the Book of Daniel we have to know these stories backwards and forwards now the fall of Babylon in the days of belt Shazzer is in the background of the fifth sixth and seventh place but I want to suggest that there is another story in the Old Testament that also stands in the background the story of the exodus of Israel from Egypt now let's review this story I only have the highlights here you need to read chapters 14 and 15 of Exodus Israel was in bondage in Egypt correct we're God's people in bondage in Babylon – absolutely each plague that God poured out upon Egypt enraged Pharaoh against God's people is that true of the first four plagues of Revelation absolutely God said to Pharaoh what let my people go is that what God is going to say is that the reason God sends the plagues at the end the purposes say let my people go that now listen carefully that captivity was made more difficult when Israel attempted to keep the Sabbath do you know that when Moses said let said just says the Lord let my people go through the wilderness for three days that we might worship the Lord Ellen White explains that what they wanted to do was go on Friday and celebrate the Sabbath and then come back and Pharaoh complained Pharaoh said you make the people Shabbat that's the word that is used same word is in Genesis Moses you're making the people's Shabbat and so he made their bondage even worse because they attempted to keep the Sabbath now when God's people came out of Egypt the crescendo of Pharaohs reigns reached its climax right so his rage is increasing and increasing and increasing with each flank so Israel escapes from Egypt and after God's people come out of Egypt they're camped at the edge of the Red Sea and Pharaoh proclaims a death decree against them is there gonna be a death decree against God's people yeah there is after the close of probation actually the death decree is uttered immediately after the second plague and you say how do we know that because the angel explains that the reason for the second plague which is the waters the fresh waters turned into blood is because they intended on shedding the blood of God's people and God has given them blood to drink because they deserve it I wish we had more time to go through all of these details and provide all the documentation but so Pharaoh gives a death decreed gainst God's people and Pharaoh you know he gathers all of his armies together 600 choice care chariots talk about overkill you know he's coming against the people that have no military strength no military organization he gets all of his armies together and he comes after Israel and he's going to destroy Israel and Israel is shut in because the because basically the armies are coming from the west and to the south there's a big mountain rent ridge to the north there is desert and to the east there's the sea this by the way is the Gulf Gulf of Aqaba this is a very deep Gulf you know the traditional place for the crossing of the Red Sea is not the correct place and Sinai is not where people tell you Sinai is in down in the Sinai Peninsula the Apostle Paul says that sign a was in Arabia and so when you cross the Gulf of Aqaba you come to the other side which is Arabia and that is million we're just relieved so Moses went back afterwards to where Jethro lived in other words Mount Sinai was actually in Arabia it wasn't under Sinai Peninsula but that's the subject for another time so so Israel is at the Red Sea there caught in there shutting and Pharaoh says these people are going to be easy prey I'm going to destroy them and I want you to go back with me now to Exodus Exodus chapter 14 and something very interesting happens here Exodus chapter 14 the Egyptians are advancing and they are about to fall upon the Israelites something spectacular happens notice verse 19 and the angel of God who went before the camp of Israel moved and went behind him and the pillar of cloud went from before them and stood behind them and so basically what happens is the pillar comes from before them and it interposes between Israel and the armies of the Egyptians verse 20 so it came between the camp of the Egyptians and the camp of Israel thus and now listen carefully thus it was a cloud and darkness to the one plague of Darkness right darkness to the one and it gave light by night to the other darkness and the armies that wanted to destroy Israel light on Israel and it says so that the one did not come near the other all night so I want you to remember what was the fifth plague darkness when Israel is at the Red Sea what do you have darkness and then what do you have next the waters of the Red Sea are dried up two terms are used the waters are dried up and the waters are divided notice Exodus chapter 14 and verse 21 Exodus chapter 14 and verse 21 it says then Moses stretched out his hand over the sea and the Lord caused the sea to go back by a strong east wind all that night and made the sea into what dry land did the sea dry up did the Euphrates dry up absolutely and it says not only does it say that the that the sea was made into a dry land but it says and the waters were what divided is that the same terminology we found in the book of Revelation Babylon is divided and the Euphrates is dried up see this is typology folks and then you know the waters dry up and then what happens when the waters dry up Israel passes through the sea away is prepared for their escape and then the Egyptians when they see that the waters have been dried up they come into the sea after Israel and the waters that have dried up now become the enemies of the Egyptians and the waters that were an obstacle to the escape of God's people now drowned the Egyptians notice Exodus 14 verses 26 through 28 Exodus 14 verses 26 to 28 then the Lord said to Moses stretch out your hand over the sea and the wot that the waters may come back upon the Egyptians on their chariots and on their horsemen and Moses stretched out his hand over the sea and when the morning appeared when did this happen at the Sun rising when of the waters dried up at the Sun rising is there something in the sixth plague that speaks of a Sun rising yes the sea returned its full strength well the Egyptians were fleeing into it so the Lord overthrew the Egyptians in the midst of the sea then the waters returned and covered the chariots the horsemen and all the army of Pharaoh that came into the sea after then not so much as one of them remained so the waters are dried up and then the waters drowned the Egyptians is it just possible that when the waters of the Euphrates dry up the waters will then drown the harlot absolutely now that's the sixth plague right drying up of the waters the dividing of the waters what was the seventh plague the seventh plague were phenomena in nature right an earthquake thundering lightning and you say well did that happen at the edge of the Red Sea Exodus doesn't say so but Psalm 77 does go with me to sound 77 and we'll read verses 16 through 20 sound 77 and verses 16 through 20 this is typology at its best Psalm 77 see we need that we need to go all across scripture when you find thunder look up thunder in the concordance look up lightning and then see what connections there Psalm 77 and beginning with verse 16 says this the water saw you Oh God the water saw you they were afraid the depths also what trembled the clouds poured out water the sky sent out a sound what is that sent out a sound Thunder the skies sent out a sound your arrows also flashed about what are the arrows lightning the voice of your Thunder was in the world wind the lightnings lit up the world the earth trembled and shook is that the same thing has happened under the seventh plague yes and you say how do you know that this deals with the Exodus listen it says your way was in the sea your path in the Great Rivers and your footsteps were not known you led your people like a flock by the hand of Moses and Aaron that is the seventh plague darkness waters dried up the water swallow up the Egyptians and in the context of lightning and thunder and earthquake noises are you following me so this story is really an illustration of the end time it's an illustration of the last three planks now do you know that while the Egyptians were in the sea a great panic fell on them let's go back to Exodus 14 Exodus chapter 14 and verses 23 to 25 Exodus 14 verses 23 to 25 it says and the Egyptians pursued and went after them in the midst of the sea all Pharaoh's horses his chariots and his horsemen now it came to pass in the morning watch that the Lord looked down upon the army of the Egyptians through the pillar of fire and cloud and he troubled the army of the Egyptians is there a panic that falls upon the wicked at the explain according to what we noticed absolutely and he took off their chariot wheels so that they drove them with difficulty and the Egyptian sent now listen here here's the Covenant concept who was Pharaoh fighting against he was fighting against the people but he was really fighting against God and Pharaoh knew it it says there in verse 25 and he took off their chariot wheels so that they drove them with difficulty and the Egyptians said let us flee from the press from the face of Israel for the Lord fights for them against the Egyptians see God would say you mess with my people you're messing with me in that you have done it unto one of these the least my brethren you have done it unto me to touch one of God's children is to touch the apple of his eye Saul Saul why do you persecute me he was persecuting the church but in persecuting the church he was persecuting Jesus and so Jesus in the end time is not gonna be shooting nuclear weapons the word the wicked are not going to be shooting nuclear weapons at Jesus no they're gonna try and kill the people and in that way they're fighting against God and God is gonna say hey folks I want you to know something these people I am their suzerainty I am their sovereign you're messing with my people they have a covenant with me and I've committed myself to protect them they're my ship and I am the Shepherd so I'm gonna do to you what David did – to the lion and to the bear and people say how could God destroy the wicked well if he doesn't destroy the wicked will destroy his people the wicked are now in our covenant with the Lord we have probation to make a covenant with God the Covenant of his protection now we need to advance very quickly here now notice Exodus 14 17 and 18 Exodus 14 verses 17 and 18 Israel was to depend upon God the glorious for God it wasn't for them it says in verse 17 and I indeed will harden hearts of the Egyptians and they shall follow them so I will gain honor over Pharaoh and over all his army his chariots and his horsemen God says I'm going to get the honor verse 18 then the Egyptians shall know that I am the Lord when I have gained honor for myself over Pharaoh his chariots and horsemen no glory for Israel all the glory is for the Lord and then what did Israel sing the song of Moses of course all this is coincidence it's typology it's the key that unlocks revelation now we need to go to our third model the spirit of prophecy to see how Ellen White understands this as I told you we're in a skip what we did on the 24 elders that was just an illustration of how to find what Ellen White has to say about a passage when she doesn't actually quote the verses so we're going to go to page 6 where it says the fifth and six planks in the great controversy page 635 do you know that Ellen White in that chapter does not quote revelation 16:12 where it says that the waters of the Euphrates were dried up she doesn't quote the verse so some people say see Ellen why didn't have anything to say about the drying up of the Euphrates yes he did she just doesn't use the language but when you look at the sequence of events you know that she's talking about that and when you look at some verse she does not quote revelation 16:12 but she does quote revelation 16 17 and so he's gonna wait a minute if she quotes 16 17 let's work our way backwards let's read it when the protection of human laws shall be withdrawn from those who honor the law of God there will be in different lands a simultaneous movement for their destruction is that similar to Pharaoh who was gathering his armies to attack Israel yes as the time appointed in the decree incidentally this comes from revelation 13:15 and the Wester so it's drawing from several context in Scripture as the time appointed in the decree draws near the people will conspire to root out the hated sect it will be determined to strike in one night a decisive blow which shall utterly silence the voice of dissent and reproof the people of God some in prison cells some hidden in solitary retreats in the forests in the mountains still plead for divine protection like Israel did at the edge of the Red Sea well in every quarter companies of armed men urged on by hosts of evil angels are preparing for the work of death is there an escape humanly speaking any escape nope are god's people caught yes they are now listen to this it is now in the hour of utmost extremity that the God of Israel why is it called the God of Israel which Israel it's God's people but God is called the God of Israel because this is his spiritual Israel it is now in the hour of utmost extremity that the God of Israel will interpose for the deliverance of his chosen and now listen to this this is before the fifth plague with shouts of triumph cheering and imprecation throngs of evil men are about to what what may what do you think of when you when you say rush what Russia's waters and these are people's rushing that's the Euphrates upon which the harlot sits with shouts of triumph cheering an imprecation throngs of evil men are about to rush upon their prey when lo a dense darkness deeper than the darkness of the night falls upon the earth which plague is that number five do you remember at the edge of the Red Sea darkness for the Egyptians and light for God's people now listen to this been a rainbow shining with the glory from the throne of God spans the heavens and seems to encircle each praying company and now comes the drying up of Euphrates the angry multitudes remember multitudes nations tongues in people's in the waters the angry multitudes are suddenly arrested what does that mean the waters dry up the waters want to rush and they're arrested their mocking cries died away the objects of their murderous rage are forgotten when are God's people delivered at the fifth plague with fearful forebodings they gaze upon the symbol of God's covenant and longed to be shielded from its overpowering brightness now in the next chapter Ellen White further describes this moment it's found in great color verses 655 and 656 how are the people arrested when the darkness falls she says the people see that they have been deluded who deluded them the preachers mm-hmm the people see that they have been deluded they accuse one another of having led them to destruction but all unite in heaping their bitterest condemnation upon the ministers the daughters of the harlot folks and the harlot unfaithful pastors have prophesied smooth things this is why the fifth plague afflicts the tongue by the way they have led their hearers to make void the law of God and to persecute those who would keep it holy now in their despair these teachers confess before the world their work of deception the multitudes are filled with fury what's gonna happen with the waters now remember I said Edge's ritzy the waters not only dried up but then the waters slough the Egyptians and so it says the multitudes know its multitudes the harlot seat seated upon multitudes the multitudes are filled with fury we are lost they cry and you are the cause of our ruin and they turn upon the false shepherds the waters are going to run the Shepherd's the very ones that had once admired them most will pronounce the most dreadful curses upon them the very hands that once crowned them with laurels will be raised for their destruction the swords which were to slay God's people are now employed to destroy their enemies everywhere there's strife and bloodshed our God's people safe at this point the fifth plague they're safe once the glory covers them in the darkness the wicked the Jeopardy is over she further amplifies on page 66 57 she quotes zechariah 14 and says why their tongues rive in pain she says and this shall be the plague she's quoting Zechariah 14 this shall be the plague wherewith the Lord will smite all the people that have fought against Jerusalem their flesh shall consume away while they stand upon their feet and their eyes shall consume away in their holes and their tongue shall consume away in their mouths and it shall come to pass in that day then a great tumult from the Lord shall be among them and they shall lay hold every one of the hand of his neighbor and his hand shall rise up against the hand of his neighbor do you see killing one another and then she comments in the man's strife of their own fierce passions and by the awful outpouring of God's on mingled wrath for the wicked inhabitants of the earth priests rulers and people rich in poor high and low and the slain of the Lord shall be at that day from one end of the earth even unto the other end of the earth they shall not be lamented neither gathered nor buried so the multitudes are arrested and then they turn upon the harlot and her daughters but now I want you to notice something very interesting you remember that we just read a few moments ago from great controversy page 635 I read only to where it says with four fearful forebodings they gaze upon the symbol of God's covenant and longed to be shielded from its over pie and brightness but a little bit further ahead Ellen White says this in the midst of the angry heavens is one clear space of indescribable glory whence comes the voice of God like the sound of many waters saying it is done revelation 16 verse 17 are you following me so so you you see sequel to Revelation 16 17 which is the southern point and you say now where would you expect her to come at the sixth blank in the previous paragraphs see don't just assume that because Ellen White doesn't quote the verses that she's not commenting on those verses she is but she doesn't use the terminology and many times she won't even give the specific verse but if you see a verse that she uses before that passage or after that passage then you work backwards on your work forwards now notice do you remember that islands disappeared and mountain ranges disappeared she continues saying that voice shakes the heavens and the earth there is a mighty earthquake such as was not since men were upon the earth so mighty an earthquake and so great the firmament appears to open and shut the glory from the throne of God seems flashing through the mountains shake like a reed in the wind ragged rocks are scattered on every site there is a roar as of a coming tempest the sea is last with fury there is heard at the shriek of a hurricane like the voice of demons upon a mission of destruction the whole earth heaves and swells like the waves of the sea its surface is breaking up its very foundations seem to be giving way mountain chains are seeking are sinking inhabited islands disappear is she commenting the seventh play yes she is the seaports have become like Sodom for their wickedness are swallowed up by the angry waters and then she quotes revelations 16 19 and 21 the seventh plague she says the seaports have become like Sodom for wickedness and are swallowed up by the granary waters Babylon the Great has come in remembrance before God to give her on to give unto her the cup of the wine of the fierceness of his wrath great hailstones everyone about the weight of a talent are doing their work of destruction Revelation 16 1981 so if you know where the seventh plague is would you know where to find number six and number five yeah so you have darkness the multitudes arrested and then the seventh blank so does Ellen White have anything to say about the might of Armageddon what is the Battle of Armageddon it's when the wicked tried to destroy God's people and what is the drying up of the waters it's when God does not allow the peoples to rush upon his people and then after the waters are dried up or divided then the waters Avalanche themselves upon the wicked and drown them like at the ridge of eggs of the Red Sea and let me ask you this what will God's people do immediately after the seventh plank after their deliverance they will sing the song of Moses and the lamb so is it important not only to look at the song but everything that happened before the song see the only reason why in Revelation it minces the song of Moses in the lamp is because it's saying hint hint it's not only the song that's parallel it is all of the events that lead up to the song that you have to study because all of the pattern of the story from the Old Testament is parallel to what's going to happen in a global scale with spiritual Israel at the end of time and so don't only study the song study what comes before the song and when you do that suddenly a different panorama opens up and you're able to understand endtime events it's not a battle nice and Fox how ridiculous to think that they serve in a battle of the Arabs and the Russians against the Jews how unspiritual that is a toll totally and spiritual interpretation and Bible prophecy what does it have to do with God's law nothing what does it have to do with worship nothing what does it have to do with the 7 nothing the final battle does not deal with economic political ethnic issues the final battle is a spiritual battle of righteousness against wickedness good against evil true worship versus false worship those who keep the commandments of God and those who don't those are the issues and that's what the world needs to know and the light that we have folks is the light that the world needs people need to know where all this is leading people need to know how things are going to develop because they're oblivious there they have this love affair with the papacy our politicians Oh in Protestants say what a wonderful fellow they're oblivious because they have lost their prophetic understanding and the only church in the world that has the prophetic understanding is this church and woe to us if we just stand up and tell three stories and read one verse and say that that's a sermon God wants his people to be instructed and God wants to see people to go out and share this endtime message so that people can have certainty so that people can know that if they make a covenant with the Lord God will be with them even in the valley of the shadow of death praise the Lord
