John Piper – The Fighter Verse App

I’m excited about the new Fighter Verse App for iPhone. I bought it last night, on-line, while it was being introduced at our church, and I spent time with it last night, and time with it this morning and frankly, I’m simply blown away. Now, a lot of you don’t even know what I’m talking about – Fighter Verse App. The Fighter Verse Program, for the past several years, in fact, since 1997, at Bethlehem, has been a program of memorizing Scripture at our church. So we have five years of different sets of verses and passages of Scripture that we try to memorize together as a church. And they’re good for anybody – it is not just unique to our church, obviously – and each year we work our way, one text each week, towards memorizing the Scripture for that year. Now this is all in an iPhone App here and I’ve used it last night and simply been amazed at what it can do. It’s got all five years, it’s got an extended set of another five years where you can learn all of Philippians, all of Colossians, all of the Sermon on the Mount, and some others. It is date-specific for each of those five years so you can know what day you’re on. You can listen to it say the Fighter Verse. It’s got fill-in-the-blank tests, so you can click on it and each word pops up in the blank. You can check off when you’ve memorized it. It’s got review options. I’m simply amazed at this. This is going to be with me every day. So I don’t have any hesitation to commend that you go to the App Store and just type in “Fighter Verses” and download this App. If you want to join us, or just be on your own, and do your own thing with memorizing Scripture, this is very helpful. I just want to thank the folks at Children Desiring God for working so hard on this excellent ministry tool.

  1. Mr. Piper, I can almost get the impression you kinda like this app. You should stop holding back your enthusiasm. =P Anyway, thanks for the info.

  2. You need to get the Desiring God app available for Android! PLEASE!!! My friends have iPhones that have the app, but Android doesn't have it!

  3. Can y'all figure out how to make it possible to rewind and skip around the songs in the app? Trying to learn the last part of Psalm 103 by having to listen to it from the beginning each time is quite difficult (but boy do my kids know the first part now!)

  4. It is on the Google Play Store, it may be incompatible with your device. You can see it by going to the Google Play Store on a computer and search "Fighter Verses" without the quotes.

  5. ScriptureTyper is where it's at for memorizing Scripture. Simple to use, clean interface… just amazing. Since I started using it 10 months ago, I memorized 360 verses. Would be great to see a demo of Fighter Verses app on YouTube.
