Ishmael’s Household Joins Lehi’s Family | 1 Nephi 7 | Book of Mormon

Sariah, The Lord has spoken unto me. It is not meet to take my family
into the wilderness alone; but that my sons should
take daughters to wife, that they might raise up seed
unto the Lord in the land of promise. I will gather our sons.
And as a family, we can thank the Lord
for answering my prayers as well. And we shall take daughters to wife,
that we might raise up children… Unto the Lord,
in the land of promise. Yes! But a wife!
And a family! Ishmael! Laman? We did not expect to
ever see you again. Where are Lehi and Sariah? Ishmael, our father sends us
with a message. We must speak with you. Of course.
Come, sit. We doubted our father’s
vision for a time, but in our journey
to get the plates, we saw an angel. As bright as the
sun at noonday in the cave where we stood. Our father was shown that
Jerusalem will be destroyed … That many shall perish
by the sword, and many more carried away
captive into Babylon. The Lord desires that the
House of Ishmael join with the house of Lehi
in the wilderness … To journey to a land of promise that He has prepared for us. The Lord wishes that
I and my family go with Lehi and his family
to the wilderness? Yes. We know that Lehi
is a faithful man. Do we not also believe
what he has taught, and the words
of all the prophets? Father Ishmael, our two families are a branch
of the House of Israel. The Lord desires that
our families unite, that we might inherit
the land of promise. Come with us. Let us ask the Lord. This is hopeless. We should return home. Days of sun and sand… -and more …
-Sun? At my own home I could
at least rest in the shade. You! You say the Lord desires this
union of our families– Yes.
Yes, He does. For what purpose? Why have we forsken
so much for so little? We have done it because
our parents are fools. Why should we not go back? Let Nephi and Sam wander the
wilderness with mother and father. Lemuel, if you return to Jerusalem, you will perish with everyone there. Better to perish in Jerusalem
than perishing here! Laman, Lemuel … Father is not the only fool! We too are fools for
following him! Please! Ye are mine
elder brethren, and how is it that ye are so
hard in your hearts, and so blind in your minds,
that you have need that I, your younger brother,
should speak unto you, yea, and set an example for you? It will be wise to cease
such talk, little brother. How is it that ye have not hearkened unto the
word of the Lord? How is it that ye have forgotten that ye have seen
an angel of the Lord? How is it that ye have forgotten that the Lord is able
to do all things according to His will,
for the children of men, if it so be that we
excercise faith in Him? If we are faithful to Him, we shall obtain
the land of promise, and ye shall know that
the word of the Lord shall be fulfilled concerning
the destruction of Jerusalem. The Spirit of the Lord ceaseth
soon to strive with them. They have rejected
the prophets and Jeremiah,
they have cast into prison. And they have sought to take
away the life of my father! Your father. I will not be lectured
by a boy! If ye will return unto Jerusalem ye shall also perish with them. And now, if ye have choice,
go up to the land, and remember the words
which I speak unto you. If ye go ye shall also perish; for thus the Spirit of the Lord constraineth me
that I should speak. Hold him! Laman! Hold him! Let him go! Let us leave him in the wilderness to be devoured by wild beasts. O Lord, according to my faith
which is in Thee, wilt Thou deliver me
from the hands of my brethren; yea, even give me strength that I may burst these bands
with which I am bound. Look! Laman and Lemuel–
please, listen to me! Bind him again! Do not do this … Laman, stop! Please! I beg of you … no more!
He is your brother! Please. Nephi … I am … sorry. We have done you a great wrong. I am sorry as well. Please forgive me. I forgive you. But I exhort you to pray to
the Lord your God for forgiveness. We will. We will. Sariah!
They have arrived. Welcome.

  1. Yay! Itโ€™s great to see a version played out in this way. Brings some of the storyline (and attendant sacrifices) into focus.

  2. This can be said to represent how, in Tanakh, the Abrahamic covenant was upon all the Semitic people to be righteous.
The over 200 biblical zion verses show how this was to be a shining example to all peoples; which was not limited to blood and soil.
As Jesus, according to H Biblos, says, the prophethood will be taken from the Israelites and given to the Ishmaelites. We further find that this has returned the covenant in terms for all peoples.

  3. I found it so funny when Laman mentioned he had seen a angel, but did not mentioned why ๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚

  4. Once again, WELL DONE! Once again it brings to mind that we never catch the Lord unaware he has a plan and if we listen we will gain the best not just the good, or better, but the best of the best.

  5. Very well done. I cried as they bound and beat Nephi. I've read it countless times, and was not pleased with how they treated him, but this makes it even more real actual tears. Grateful they apologized and Nephi forgave them. The actor of Laman really does portray him well. They all do really. But I think Laman and Lemuel can be the most misunderstood at times.

  6. Alright young single adults, next time you go out with the person you want to marry say as Nephi said "we are both of the house of Israel and the Lord wants us to unite our families". I see you Nephi, I see you.

  7. I loved this so much! It really helps me to see things from everybody's perspective. There are probably more times when I act like Laman and Lemuel than Nephi. But hey, life is about changing and being better, and some day hopefully I can become like Nephi! ๐Ÿ™‚ Can't wait for next week's video!

  8. I laughed so hard.. When I saw that little kid frown and make an angry face when the ishmaelite family were frowning upon laman and lemuel.

  9. NOT LONG ENOUGH!!!!!! Another awesome video. Iโ€™m sure Iโ€™m the only one who is wondering where Nephiโ€™s sisters come in to play. The only thing I can think of is that maybe itโ€™s Nephiโ€™s sister-in-laws that he considers his sisters. Oh, I just realized I didnโ€™t see Zoram in this video. I CANโ€™T WAIT UNTIL NEXT WEEK!!!!!

  10. Oh my stars oh how I love this. It has brought tears to my eyes I felt the spirit so strongly struggling so much emotionally thank you so much I love it

  11. Suddenly we're in Episode 3 It gets better every week. Brought tears to my eyes this one at the point, Nephi said "Oh Lord according to my faith which is in thee " made me look at my own faith.

  12. I love all the videos so far, but why do they have all the small videos of the same thing in between the big videos it's a little confusing at times trying to keep up with all of them because they Bounce Around.

  13. Keep finding one Mayor ERROR with all these videos!!!! They are too short :(. Church has done such a great work that I only wish we could see more. Also did anyone notice the Church uploading this video earlier than the last 2 which had gone public at 8AM PST ?

  14. This really brings the account of when Nephi & his brothers go to get Ishmael & their family to live with all the emotions they faced, it helps me to understand what each person experienced as they followed the Lord's counsel to go to the American continent.

  15. Lehi: โ€œGo and get the brass plates.โ€
    Laman and Lemuel: โ€œughhhhh daddddโ€

Lehi: โ€œThe Lord has said you should take Ishmaelโ€™s daughters to wife.โ€

  16. I hate one thing..

That this video is 12 minutes while the others have been 25.

    One thing I love…

Ishamel didn't just do it, they looked for revelation and confirmation to know as well that Lehi did not lie.

    Another thing lol…

    Where are nephi's sisters! O,o

  17. This one made me cry. I couldn't believe it. It happened in this video the way that I have imagined it all these years in my heart. I love the way that the videos make Laman and Lemuel real as they are and not a caricature of evil as I have caught as hints from so many. I understand what they were feeling. I love Nephi and the actor did such a great job capturing his humility. It made me cry. Jesus taught that the gospel can divide families. How hard is it that Lehi and his family went through this hard trial? It would be hard for anyone who had to go through what they went through.

Would I be Nephi? I don't know. I hope I would. Laman and Lemuel were angry, but they loved their family.

  18. Great portrayal of the miracle of the loosening of the bands, and I really love the way they've showed how wonderful & important these faithful women were.

  19. These are great videos! True to the written account without too much hollywood. Just enough added to make it connect.

  20. These videos help me to read the book of mormon.i read the book mormon by chapters then I watch the video ,it actually helps me to understand,I am upto 1 nephi chapter 8 just finished reading it in the book of mormon now waiting for the video.๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘

  21. It goes to show how relationships with our own families are like. Different circumstances, but yet the same.

  22. LOVE these videos! It was great to see Laman talking about seeing an angel, just how I imagine he would. Great interpretation, great videos. Can't say enough about them.

  23. I love how this depicts them as real people with real emotions and reactions and different personalities. They're not just words on a page; they were real people. They struggled, they argued, they prayed, they got blisters on their feet from walking.

As a side note, the actor who plays Nephi is quite handsome. ๐Ÿ™‚

  24. I love these videos so much! Who here cannot wait for the tree of life? Also, didn't Nephi have sisters? I thought they would add them it is 2019 after all!

  25. The book of Mormon is true!!! I'm sooo grateful my kids will have these videos to help them understand the scriptures as they get older. Sooo many amazing well done church videos if you go to the right source. all the new testament videos with Christ are very well done too!

  26. One thought came to my mind, a analogy. We sit in Sacramental, smile and feel happy about the Gospel( like Lemuel speaking about a family and a wife). Even feeling that we sin after, sometimes so fast( like binding Nephi). The most important word here is "Remember". If we don't put effort in remember the things that we know and had experienced, we will always coming back to the same mistakes.

  27. Based on actual events… like when Frodo took the Ring to Mordor. And when Luke trained to be a Jedi. And when Harry defeated Voldemort. ๐Ÿ˜‚

  28. Your recent inquiry concerning the Smithsonian Institution's alleged use of the Book of Mormon as a scientific guide has been received in the Smithsonian's Department of Anthropology.

The Book of Mormon is a religious document and not a scientific guide. The Smithsonian Institution has never used it in archeological research and any information that you have received to the contrary is incorrect. Accurate information about the Smithsonian's position is contained in the enclosed "Statement Regarding the Book of Mormon," which was prepared to respond to the numerous inquiries that the Smithsonian receives on this topic.

Because the Smithsonian regards the unauthorized use of its name to disseminate inaccurate information as unlawful, we would appreciate your assistance in providing us with the names of any individuals who are misusing the Smithsonian's name. Please address any correspondence to:

  29. Around 6:40 – 6:51, Nephi is TRULY standing for truth and righteousness here… he said something that he needs to set an example to his oldest brother, Laman. Then Laman's reaction is similar to what every reluctant older person would say to a young missionary when they are about to reject what he/she heard… "How old are you? 18? 19? What do you know?!" …or "How dare you talk to me like that?"
But God is no respecter of persons… no wonder the missionary age got lowered so that He can show His power among the "least of the brethren."

  30. Nothing can replace the scriptures themselves but the images that these videos create and the characterization lends reality to ALL the characters. Seeing them and what they go through deepens my ability to empathize.

  31. My older sister in fact would make cookies for me with grass and bugs in them. She locked me inside a suitcase at least once.
    I understand Nephiโ€™s pain.

  32. My kids would complain when we took them on a long journey. In our air conditioned automobile with electric windows and comfortable seats, with nice smooth paved roads and treats and cold refreshing beverages of every kind. Yeah, I don't think the past generations with have any pity on us.

  33. If only all families could find forgiveness after a difference of opinion! Of course I would hope that they don't tie each other up and have to have God untie them to go and seek it!!

  34. it's really great, the only critique i have of the lines is you can tell the switch between scriptural language and ordinary language. tough job though trying to write scriptural language. but thanks for this episode, my knees hurt too when Nephi was dragged on his knees lol

  35. At times I have felt all alone trying to help my family on the right path. This story is relatable to us in our day more than before. Our families are constantly targeted by the adversary every Day. To see Nephiโ€™s face in the sand and dirt with his body bound by ropes, he didnโ€™t complain, but prayed by Faith. How many times when we fall to the ground or our pushed do we pray in faith?

  36. They are doing such a great job of these. It almost makes me mad seeing these and realizing how terrible all the other BOM videos have been up to this point. I have genuinely been excited the last two Fridays.

  37. There is a profound lesson that most people are unaware of regarding this sequence of events. The Lord commanded Lehi to take his family into the wilderness. He then commanded the boys to go back and get the brass plates. Then he commanded them to go back and get Ishmaelโ€˜s family so that they get wives to raise children.

Remember, the Book of Mormon was written for us in our day. This sequence shows an important order in regards to our individual salvation. Our relationship to God comes first. We have to do what he says first. Our families are second. There is an order to all things.

While it may seem harsh, even if our family decides to follow some other way, we are to follow what we know is right.

If they had gotten Ishmael's family on the same trip as the one when they got the brass plates there would not have been this distinct order shown and it would have resulted in confusion regarding this issue.

Now it is clear and there are many people today that need to follow this example and set their houses in order. Too many are allowing themselves to be found outside of the church because their families have left for a variety of reasons and they decided to remain with them instead of stick with the mainstream of the church.
