I Got a Publishing Contract!!

hello everyone happy Saturday thank you so much for joining me today this week's video is the one that I am so so excited to finally be able to make it is a video that I never thought I would have the opportunity to film and share with you guys but today today I finally get to tell you guys all about how I finally got a book to know me I still cannot believe that I get to say those words like I have a book publishing contract and it is mind-boggling to me it is there are no written as a writer someone who prides herself on words not having any well kind of a cool thing I'm not gonna lie so today's vlog is basically just gonna meet be me probably rambling and squeeing and probably crying and sharing with you guys the good news and what this means for me and keeper and yeah normally I script my vlogs but today I'm going unscripted because I wanted you guys to see me kind of in the raw and be able to experience the excitement and the emotions right there with me without any kind of rehearsal or Prelude or anything like that so go ahead I scripted today and I'm going to be talking all about how I got a book contract so about three months ago I posted my writer confession video and in that blog I basically just laid my soul bare and I talked a lot about my fears of failure how I was really worried keeper would never find a home how I'd never be able to write another book and I just let all of the worry and the doubt and the anxiety and the frustration that I was feeling I just put it out there on camera for all to see and I was really worried what the response to that video would be but I was met with such love and kindness and I can never stop thanking all of you for that you never really know how much your words mean to somebody and your words meant so much to me in that time so thank you so much and I'm already getting period it's legal minute to move the blog whoa this is not bode well for later um it's a really cool feeling to be able to come back and tell you guys it three months later I'm in a much better place I am more confident and feeling so hopeful and excited about the future and I couldn't have done it without all of your love and support and encouragement so thank you again and I am excited to say that I am officially a published author ah I'm a book contract and keeper is going to be a real book you guys it is going to be a real book that you can like pick up and read ah okay for the sake of your ears I will try to stop screaming on this video but what an incredible feeling to go from such a low point and then in a short three-month span to be where I'm at today is just such a surreal magical amazing moment and I am so glad that I get to share it with all of you so thank you thank you thank you now you're probably wondering how the book deal came about so I'm going to jump into that story now and tell you how it all went down for me so here we go being my submission for a writer is a whole lot of nothing yeah it's a lot with the Quarian process if you're familiar with that like basically when you're on submission as a writer you're sitting around twiddling your thumbs refreshing your email obsessively checking your text messages like you know hoping that maybe you missed a call or a text from your agent but really it's a lot of sitting around and waiting and wondering and hoping and so for the last couple of months I have been doing exactly that just waiting and hoping and praying and just crossing my fingers that something good would happen and so a couple of weeks ago Kaitlyn and I received word that Mari and Orser additions was interested in the acquisition of Keeper and that was a seriously fun day I've known for a couple weeks now that this book contractors in work was in the works and I'm so sorry I couldn't tell you I wanted to so bad I wanted to shout it from the rooftops but I couldn't and so I just was super excited and anxious brought the whole thing of course we were interested and so we started the negotiations with Northstar and then you know a little while after all of that I had a book contract and I remember my agent Caitlin sending me emails saying okay like negotiations are over everything looks good if you're ready to sign we're ready to sign and I remember sitting in my class like I was in the middle of my class and be like you know like dancing and flailing and my students are like whoa miss Chan what is happening and so I got just kind of shared that moment with them too which was really cool so it yeah that probably happened not really that exciting it was still pretty one cool element though that I will say there is an editor that my editor actually now that has been very instrumental in this process him and I are actually friends and friends on Twitter I guess if you will like we just kind of met randomly over the course of the last year over our mutual love of like Doctor Who and all things nerdy and so he really kind of took an interest in me and took an interest in Keeper and so when I went on submission obviously he was very interested and became a big cheer leader in an advocate for keeper so I am just so grateful that he was willing to take a chance on us and you know request that keeper be acquired which it was and so see my editor Reese thank you so so much for being such a huge supporter of keeper like I cannot thank you enough for that when you have helps make my dream come true and I'm trying to grind on the blog thank you like really there are any other words other than that just thank you thank you thank you and thank you tomorrow at North Star as well for making this happen and then of course to my amazing agent Kaitlyn I'm not going to make it guys just the emotions and the hormones for the pregnancy I'm gonna end up stopping before this video is over late Kalyan I know I say this all the time but you really changed my life when you offered me representation when you offer to be my literary agent and I'm so grateful to you for that like you always know what to say you always make me feel like I'm on the right path you always make me feel like I'm supported and encouraged and you're the best agent ever know that probably a lot of people say that but I really mean it and you really aren't like thank you thank you thank you thank you for helping make this happen and I am so looking forward to the future and continuing our work together and just thank you thank you this wooden guys I also want to say thank you to you to all of you because you know and I think it takes a village to raise a child it takes a village to raise a book a village to raise an author and my support system that I'm so lucky to have is not only made up with my wonderful family and friends who I'm also so grateful for but from a community strangers from people that I've never met people all over the world who have been following my journey from day one and who have loved and supported me and sent me encouragement and kindness and you guys are amazing like you don't understand how the power of community and love and kindness can mean what it can do and it has meant so much to me over the last couple of months over the last year really and I'm so excited that I am finally going to be able to put Keeper in your hands because not only coz do I want you to read my book well because I feel like it will finally be my way of truly saying thank you for what you've done for me it's my way of saying look at what you helped to do look at what you did like you helped me go from feeling like my dream would never come true having that dream come true and it's all because of you guys and thank you for that thank you for never we clicked for always believing that it would happen for being excited about keeper a book you never even read and don't really know a lot about and for believing that it would happen because there were times when I wanted to quit when I wanted to give up when I didn't believe it would happen but then you guys are always there so thank you so much thank you like if they're seriously another way to say that like we need to find another word because thank you just doesn't seem to be adequate enough but that's all I got so thank you guys so so so much um alright pull yourself the other chin oh I'm all like yeah I'm not gonna cry in this vlog you know I'm just gonna be all happy and cheerful and well you know I'm a crier what can I say I tried everything when I'm happy when I'm sad what a mad when I just watch a commercial that gets my feelings gonna cry so very good um so what does this mean for me and keeper well keeper is currently slated for publication in the spring of 2018 probably March ish now that date could could change I don't really know how all of that works but I'm guessing that could change but right now from what I heard March 2018 and between now and then is just going to be a lot of work I think my editor is currently going through the Navy script and is making kind of shift suggestions and his you know ideas for changes and all of that good stuff and so I'm expecting a full edit letter from Kim at the end of this month and then I will have time after that to make those changes I turnaround time is rather quick the publisher wants the completed manuscript try to first review which is a little intimidating but that also actually works out really well because it's most of you know I'm expecting my third child and he is due at the end of June so it's really important to me to make sure that keeper is good to go that it's squared away before he comes because once he comes obviously he's going to be my focus and I'm gonna be out of commission for a while so um I think of me course is the next few weeks because I'm really going to be busting my butt as best I can to make those edits and to make keeper even better than it is and to polish it and shine it up and make it the best that it can possibly be so that when it comes to y'all cans it is in excellent shape which of course is awesome I'm assuming once all of the edits are done I don't really kind of know how all of that works but I'm assuming from there it goes to things like formatting and design and marketing and publicity and all of that which is so exciting I can't wait to see what the cover looks like guys like I have no idea what it's going to look like I even have an idea in my head of what I want it to look like but just give me a week I'm it's gonna be such an amazing feeling when I have a cover over keeper like an official one and like a synopsis on the back and like my little picture on the inside my makeup my name on the cover guys it's gonna be a seriously cool feeling I'm planning on blogging that entire that entire journey with you from everything that I know we're experienced I'm going to film for you so you know when I have seen the cover when I get art for the first time and just everything that I experienced on this journey I'm going to film for you guys because you have been so instrumental in all of this like I want you to be a part of all of this so I'm gonna bring you along with me on the ride don't you worry so yeah man being excited I'm having a kid friction on your diagram so this does not make for a great great combo I'm seriously I breath so hang on let me take a little breather I'll be right back okay sorry um what I really want to leave you with at the end of this video is business never give up on your dreams I know that that sounds like very clichรฉd advice but when I look back over my writing journey so far it has been a lot of ups and downs guys I started this in 2008 2008 my book is coming out in 2018 that means they will have taken me ten years to go from hey I wanna read a book to hey I wrote a book and it's published I think don't give up on your dream don't give up on your dreams it can happen it happened to me and it can happen to you and I believe that and you have to believe that you dreams don't work unless you do so here just write and write and work and pour your heart and soul into your manuscript and don't let anyone ever tell you that you can't do it because you can and you will and I'm going to be here to celebrate and share lead and squeeze and scream with you when it does happen because I believe that you can do this so please please please if you have managed to make it to the end of this vlog in spite of all of my flailing and excitedness I really just want this video to be all about the fact that key dreams can and you come true and I know there are a lot of writers out there who feel discouraged and allow writers who want to quit don't do that don't quit because you're amazing and your words are amazing and your book is going to be on the Shelf one day and I am going to be able to read that book one day and other people are going to be able to read that book one day so you just hold on to that dream and you work hard and you fight for it in one day's going time all right so I guess that's all I got for you today folks I know there would be joke that I probably left out because I was just so excited to make this video I probably should've scripted it is what I did it so if you have any questions about this process or kind of what it looks like for me in the future please leave me a comment below or you can tweet me at underscore kam chance I hope this video has helped you to heal not to alone and to feel like you can do it because you can do it and I want my journey to be a reminder to you that dreams can and you come true so I hope this weekend your writing and your making lots of progress and you're feeling good about that progress and yeah I can't wait to read your book one day so I 1. I'm very, very, very happy for you. Now the story you have created through the written word can be put into the hands of others so it can come to life when they read it ๐Ÿ˜ƒ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿฅณ. I'm still dreaming and praying to be published. But also, I just want to keep writing the material that comes to mind, because I love doing so.

  2. Congratulations Kim, This is Bill from Bill's Book Club. We want to thankyou for bringing a story to us. Let me know the ebook version so to me have a copy.

  3. Hello

I am writing a book. and I am finding it hard to get a Book publisher; so can you please tell me the name of the publishing company? That would be great

  4. I'm watching this as I come to the 50k mark of my book which I'm aiming to be about 75k words and every day, even when I'm doing good writing, I feel like I'm never going to finish it, let alone revise and edit it enough for anyone to want to read it, represent it, or publish it. Seeing you achieve this after working so long is so amazing and encouraging and heart warming. You sharing your journey gives me and so many others a lot of hope and inspiration to push through because we can really do this. Thank you so much <3

  5. That is so exciting. !! Congratulations.โœโœ Yayyy.๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ’œ๐Ÿ’œ Thank you for sharing your story. So totally awesome.

  6. Can you please write a book titled โ€œPlease, make this a movie.โ€ And someone turn it into a movie called โ€œPlease make this a book.โ€?

  7. Just started the querying process, and hitting that "send" button the first time might have been the most nerve wracking thing I've ever done (Coming from someone whose has a track record of doing 'nerve wracking' things) and I honestly don't know if I could have done it without you and your videos on the process.

  8. I think seeing into your life and your process from low point to this high point reinforces what I have come to understand it the most important single concept (in writing and in life, as far as I can tell) that I can articulate: perspective. At your low point you couldn't know that this moment was coming… but it was. You had a great future just around the corner, but you couldn't see around that corner yet. Often I interact with depressed people who simply cannot see that their future will be so incredible, but we have to keep faith that the future can be SO CLOSE… we just have to hold on until we get there.

  9. I am watching this 8 months after the fact and I knew that it was accepted and I'm tearing up watching this. It is probably mostly because I hope this is me one day and I can imagine what you are going through because this is my dream too. This is also just incredibly encouraging (especially considering I'm feeling a bit daunted just now). So, belatedly, congratulations. ๐Ÿ™‚

  10. I know this video is from a while ago, but I just recently found your channel and wanted to congratulate you on your book and publishing deal! I love watching videos of authors talking about their success, it gives me a lot of hope for my book (I'm about to start querying agents in January and I'm SO nervous!) and I'm always just so genuinely excited for authors like you who've made it! So congrats! I can't wait to read Keeper when it comes out, and until then I'll continue binge-watching all of your writing advice videos ๐Ÿ˜‰

  11. I just found your name on goodreads. . . And thought to add to see what your all about ๐Ÿ˜ Add this face to your subscription count ๐Ÿ™‚ look forward to see all your videos ๐Ÿ™‚

  12. I know I'm late in watching this, but what you said at the end about,
"Don't give up on your dreams. Don't quit. Don't let anyone tell you your manuscript is bad, etc etc…"
That helped. I know I've already said this, but I'm going to be Querying in mid January, and that scares the heck out of me… But hearing those words helps. So, thank you, Mrs. Chance. I needed to hear this right now. God Bless!
