Reply I’m in Detroit. Where do I find these poetry slams? Reply This is amazing. I'm constantly reminding people that Pride is a protest started by trans women of color, throwing rocks at the police men that brutalized them in the street. Most call it a celebration, and they're not technically wrong. But it is still Very Much a PROTEST. We have come so far, but sill have miles and miles ahead. In me, you've got a trans ally for life. 🏳️🌈 Reply Take off the dress and be a man. You walk around looking crazy, you will be treated as such. Reply UNSUBSCRIBED Reply Go offff Reply I've never understood how cis-white gays could be transphobic or racist like? Ever heard of Marsha P. Johnson or Sylvia Rivera??????? Especially in America man, like wtf, in other countries, sure, those two specifically had less of an impact but that doesn't mean we can leave the black LGBTQ+ community behind and move on because "Gay marriage is legal now". No, the fight isn't over until every single one of us can walk home from the bus stop without the fear of being assaulted or killed. Reply This is beautiful and extremely right Reply If someone from button poetry read this : please guys consider putting english subtitles/captions in your videos! As a channel which apparently give space for marginalized folks you should be aware that a lot of people who are deaf also want to enjoy those piece of poetry! I'm not deaf myself so I can't talk for them but I'm not an native english speaker and most of the times I can't entirely get what the poets say, so it would be great if you put captions. Reply I freaking LOVE Reply What in the fuck is this? How low have we fallen if this is considered as poetry. Reply Once again, people like to scapegoat all there problems on to the same people, this in its self is racist. Reply this is really good but pride wasn't started by a trans woman. like im assuming the poet is referencing Marsha P. Johnson but in his own words he was a gay drag queen, he took offense to being called a woman. Even further than that, Stonewall was incited by a biracial butch lesbian, stormé. Marsha himself said he didn't arrive til after 2 am, and Sylvia Rivera was coked out in a park somewhere. Pride, and all gay rights movements, have been started and continued by gay people. the T wasn't even added until the 90s the communities are so different Reply They gave me chills literally. Tears in my eyes. Heart beating with the pain reflected in their words. So so needed. If you want to learn a bit more about transculture and especially if you're a cis white person or a gay white person please educate yourself, learn about marsha p.jonhson, black transwomen and transwomen of color ARE THE REASON we have pride months and protest in the first place, pride month started as a PROTEST AGAINST POLICE VIOLENCE. Read books written by trans author, movies which tells their stories, there's this series that I really adore «Pose» tackle a lot of those issues. Reply I have seen more transphobic black people than transphobic gay white men. Reply GO OFFFF Reply This is something that needs to be remembered every pride. This need to be remembered all the time. There would be no pride if not for trans women of color and drag queens. We would not have the rights we have today if not for them. So we need to give thanks everyday that we are able to live our lives comfortably cause God knows they didn't Reply Fuck. This is everything. Thank you golden. Reply I am amazed, this is incredible!! Reply This is why black and brown were added to the flag 🏳️🌈 Reply i literally got into an argument with a transphobic cis white bi man at pride who told me i wasnt nonbinary Reply Ms. Marsha P. Johnson would approve Reply Respect. Reply If you like this poem the Netflix show Pose touches on some of these issues Reply I loved it. Most of my trans friends are white, but they are always upset about how the gay community treats them. And yes, it seems like black people get shafted every time we have a revolution about rights. It's insane to me. Why does someone's skin color matter? 🙁 it's just a sad, sad state of affairs we live in these days. Reply This is a really wonderful and powerful poem! It really opens your eyes to the reality that even in a community of “acceptance and equality” there is still hatred and ignorance. It’s horrible that so many people of color in the community are victimized and then don’t even get talked about (especially trans women). If it brings a little more joy, Philadelphia added the colors black and brown to their pride flag to represent the people of color in the community. I am white but I understand how important this topic is and that it needs to be discussed, so I thank you for bringing awareness with this poem! Love and support to those struggling with these issues or any issues and I hope that your life get better If it helps, have a penguin hug(>•^•)> <3 Reply Yesss, Beautiful! I personally cannot relate to this but these voices deserve a platform to speak and more people need to listen. Really wonderfully done. Be proud and be safe. I hope you live the happiest life as who you are. Everyone deserves to. I cannot understand being in a minority and still shitting on other minorities. Everyone needs to love each other. That's what pride should truly be about. 🖤 Reply Love it. 💛 Reply PREACH Reply No one talks about this, and it desperately needed to be said. Thank you.
