I wonder if this is the right term to use for what you're explaining.  Those who are in media studies in particular know well that content analysis is often about counting instances of texts, names, subjects, topics etc rather than coding "content". The  latter is often referred to as discourse analysis or simply as coding or emergent coding. Theme analysis may do as well.
