Bible Verses About Hope | Christian Sermon by Troy Black

Hey everyone. This is Troy. Today I want to talk about hope and I’m going to be in Romans 8. Whenever you get done watching this video, go read Romans 8—or whenever you get the time. I just encourage you to go read it. And I am going to start off with Romans 8
verse 24, and it says, “For in hope we have been saved, but hope that is seen is not hope; for who hopes for what he already sees?” I think a lot of times when
we feel hopeless, whether it is a situation that is causing us to feel that
way or whether it’s—you know a person in our life—or something like a
disappointment that we are facing, or whatever it is. I think we think, “Well, if
this would just change then I would have some hope.” But Paul says something
amazing about hope in Romans 8:24 in that he says, “for who hopes for what he
already sees?” I think sometimes we look at hope the wrong way and we think that
hope is the changing of the circumstance. but I feel like what Paul is saying is
that we need to hope and we should expect to have hope even before the circumstance begins to
change. What I am talking about is true Biblical
hope. It is the kind of hope that God wants us to have in Jesus Christ. And we only get that hope when we put our faith directly in Him. The Bible says that faith is the
substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen. That means
that we get to be filled with hope when our hope is in Him even if things have
not begun to change because we know that we get to live with Him in eternity
because He set us free through His blood. And that is what our hope is in— the fact that because of God’s love, Jesus Christ came in He died on the cross for our sins.
That God, the Creator of the universe, not only does He want to be our our Lord
and our Savior and our Master, but He also wants to be our Father. He wants us to be His children—His sons and daughters. And that is even more amazing because it is like, “Yeah, that would be great to go spend eternity with God, you know, and not have to not have to be separated from Him for eternity.” But the other side of
the coin is that, if God wants to be our Father and we get to be His children, then
we get to have hope for now too—not just for eternity. Romans chapter 8, verse 32 says, “He who did not spare His own Son, but delivered Him over for us all, how will He not also with Him freely give us all things?” This verse is amazing because
it is a reminder of the love of God and love He has for His children—in that God
does not want us just to believe in Jesus Christ and then wait for the
rest of our life to have hope. He wants us to have hope through His Son Jesus
Christ living inside of us today. And I think for unbelievers it is so easy to look at the cost of Christianity and to say—you know, to weigh the cost versus the reward. But when we are putting our hope and our
faith in Jesus Christ, then there is no downside worth mentioning. And I love the words that Paul uses in
Romans 8:18. He says, “For I consider that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory that is to be revealed to us.” And as
believers, I know sometimes it is easy for us to to come to the Lord and say, “Lord,
I just do not feel like I am experiencing Your love right now.” And an
amazing verse when you feel that way is Romans 8:37-39. It says, “But in all these things we overwhelmingly conquer through Him who loved us. For I am convinced that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor things present, nor things to come, nor powers, nor height, nor depth, nor any other created thing, will be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.” And then another doubt that I have had—even when I think
“Okay, the love of God is so amazing.” And the times I have experienced it has
been amazing, but a doubt that arises sometimes as a believer is, “Well, I just
do not feel like—because of mistakes or because of things I have done—I do not feel like I deserve it right now.” I want to go back and read verse 1 of Romans 8. It
says, “Therefore there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus.” If you are feeling like you do not deserve the love of God right now, just
remember that no one deserves it. But it is a free gift.
Despite our sin and despite our mistakes, God wants us to experience His
love, not only for eternity but now. And if you are feeling like you don’t deserve it and therefore you are not going to be able to receive it, that is the enemy speaking a lie to you. Because God wants you to experience His love. He
wanted you to experience His love so much so that He sent His son to die for
you. An amazing chapter in the Bible is Psalm 136 in this chapter it actually
says the phrase “His lovingkindness is everlasting” 26 times. And I think the
reason it is repeated so many times is because God wanted us to get
it into our heads that He loves us, and that His love for us is not going to end, and that
He wants us to experience that now and for eternity. And I think it is easy for us
to sometimes think, “Well, I am just going to have to wait to experience that
everlasting love until I get to heaven.” But Paul also makes it very clear in Romans 5:5 that God does not want us to have to wait to experience His love. It says,
“And hope does not disappoint, because the love of God has been poured out within our hearts through the Holy Spirit who was given to us.” And the last verse that I want to read
is Romans 10:11. It says, “For the Scripture says, “WHOEVER BELIEVES IN HIM WILL NOT BE DISAPPOINTED.” What this is talking about is putting
our faith fully and completely in Jesus Christ. When we believe in Him and when
we believe the word that He has spoken, we are not going to be disappointed. What we have to believe is simply that God is telling the truth. He has put a testament
to His love in the Bible, the Word of God that He has given us—His revealed Word to us. And the message of His love is completely wrapped around the fact that
Jesus, His Son, came and died for us. But the way we get to experience that hope that does not disappoint is that we read His word for what it
says, and we believe it the way He wrote it.

  6. Hope has a name: Jesus

When we have Jesus, we – have – all – we – need.

The sooner we learn that, the sooner life's temporary hardships fade away in light of what Jesus has done, what he is doing, and what he promises to do.

Great video. Thanks for sharing, brother.

  7. great message! Biblical hope is nothing like the hope we think of in this world. Like, "well, I HOPE that happens. I guess we'll see." instead it's HOPE in the one who gives us hope and if HE gives us hope then his hope does not disappoint us. thanks for sharing!

  18. Thank u very much for making this video! It is very helpful..and actually i want to learn more about hope and i read some part of scriptures about hope and faith, because i am struggling to differentiate between hope and 'compelling our wish'..because i thought 'something' is my call, on the other side i need to test it whether it is a real call from God (a God's will) or not..because at the beginning it seems to be ok, however after i started and continue to do it, it is so hard and become tougher and tougher..so i'm afraid if i get totally wrong..so, i hope someone can share answer to me because i really try to get the right understanding how to diferentiate these 2..thank u very much..
