A Book of Mormon Story

I was introduced to God or the
concept of God by my mom. I can remember I was about
two or three years old kneeling by my bed. We had this little Bible
with loads of beautiful pictures of them. I remember Moses parting the Red
Sea, Abraham, Samson, King David taking down Goliath. Those first experiences really
left a mark on me. My name is Chris Cook. I live in London, England, and
I’m a serving bishop in the Mormon faith right now. A bishop is an unpaid minister
in the Church. The Church’s official name is
the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. We are called the Mormons as a
nickname, and this comes from the Book of Mormon which is
a book like the Bible. I think that the Book of Mormon
actually helps to complete the message that the
Bible is sharing to the world. Around 600 BC during the time
of Jeremiah the biblical prophet, another prophet named
Lehi was commanded to leave Jerusalem and take his family
into the wilderness where they would build a ship and
cross the sea. They arrived in a promised
land, what we know as the American continent, where they
created a civilization which endured many centuries. Lehi’s sons populated the line
and communicated with God from time to time. Mormon was one of the last
descendants of these people. All the writings of the prophets
were compiled by him and are known as the
Book of Mormon. When I first met the
missionaries, they showed me the Book of Mormon. I was compelled to read it. It makes sense that God would
continue to speak to us. The significance of God
speaking to me through prophets and apostles, through
reading the scriptures, means that he’s there. And he’s actively engaged
in providing for me. So the whole experience has
changed my whole life. Yes. “Behold it has been made known
unto me by an angel, that the spirit of all men, as soon as
they depart this mortal body, yea, the spirit of all men,
whether they be good or evil, are taken home to that God
who gave them life. And then shall it come to pass
that the spirit of those who are righteous are received into
a state of happiness, which is called paradise, a
state of rest, a state of peace, where they shall rest
from all of their troubles and from all care and sorrow.” When I read that, those words,
I felt the Spirit. And if I can try to describe it,
it was a feeling of peace. My mind was enlightened. I felt like it was true. Where I’m from in Jamaica, it’s
very superstitious place. It was very unpleasant thing
to contemplate death. The scripture points out
to me that it is a part of God’s plan. There is a place prepared
for people that die. And I’m happy that I was able to
come to that knowledge, and I’ve got the Book of Mormon
and that experience to thank for it. “And he shall go forth
suffering pains and afflictions and temptations of
every kind, and this that the word might be fulfilled which
sayeth it will take upon him the pains and the sicknesses
of his people. And he will take upon him death
that he may loose the bands of death which
binds his people. And he will take upon him their
infirmities, that his bowels may be filled with mercy
according to the flesh, that he may know according to
the flesh how to succor his people.” This verse of scripture is
saying there that Jesus Christ has taken upon himself my
sicknesses, my pains, my challenges, which puts
him in a position to understand me better. When I read the scripture and
it really touched me. I just felt like I wanted
to be a good person. It left me with the feeling
that I never want to do another bad thing for
the rest of my life. “And when ye shall receive these
things, I would exhort you that you would ask God,
the Eternal Father, in the name of Christ if these
things are not true. And if ye shall ask with a
sincere heart, with real intent and faith in Christ, he
will manifest the truth of it unto you by the power of the
Holy Ghost. And by the power of the Holy Ghost ye may know
the truth of all things.” I came to a knowledge
that the book is true I would say gradually. It came through little
experiences here on that page, and a little experience there
on that page, and always accompanied by the Holy Ghost.
The way the Book of Mormon has changed me the most, it has
filled me with the desire to become one in Jesus Christ. What
the Book of Mormon does is it makes me want to share it
with as many people I see on the street. I want this book to fill
the world, man.

  1. That is why it is called The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, because it is His Church. Christ said to enter into heaven you must be baptized (born again) by Authority of God, which is called the priesthood. The Book of Hebrews explains this. Just ask God.

  2. bible= fairy tales for adults…walking on water? so now you can defy gravity? coming back from the dead? wow no one i know has ever done that…becoming pregnant without sex? now thats just nasty…

  3. If men crucified Jesus Christ the son of God, is it possible that they would one day have need a restauration of His gospel?

  4. why would God need someone to right a book to complete is word?? God said it all. His word is complete.Jesus Christ told us that false prophets would come this is just the proof that it's true. Forgive them father and save the one's that are truly seeking you with honesty, in Jesus name Amen.

  5. I love how simple the message is but very powerful. I think the message is direct for those who are really looking for the truth!

  6. BOOK OF MORMON STORY PART 2: Real life Mormonism isn't so clean and tidy as presented here in Part 1. I"m a Non LDS Utahn and live in a typical Mormon Ward here in Utah. I see how the Non Mormon and Inactive Mormons get treated especially the children. Mormon kids not allowed to play at non members homes, unfriendly treatment, bulling and constantly asked what religion you are. As a kid in Utah I was treated the same. Many LDS Leaders are aware of this but the average Active Members deny it .

  7. id'e …b……nowhere…..if the mormon faith wasn't in my life
that is my life is better with mormonism in my life
    p.s…..heavy metal rules

  8. This is just another follower of Jesus Christ behind a computer screen on a Chuck Norris account, looking for laughs and happiness by joking around, but I am not a Mormon, but it would be very cool to get a copy of the book of Mormon. Anyone know if I can get one at a Lifeway Christian Store? That is the only Christian store I live close to.

  9. I felt my testimony was almost gone, watching this video definitely helped me feel the truth and peace again. Thank you.

  10. YES! Google "how to get a book of mormon for free." I would put the link here but the computer won't allow it. It will take you to somewhere on mormon.org. There you can type in your information to receive one. 🙂

  11. I know as a mom and trying to keep the surroundings of my children safe guarded is challenging. I raise mine to try to choose friends with the same standards and stay away from things or people that don't respect that or that would influence you in other ways. I believe some people take it too far and don't let their kids interact outside their faith. I tell my children to be a good friend to everyone, "standards" can be good in anyone. I'm sorry for your experience. Not all are that way. 😉

  14. Yes; we believe that after he was resurrected, Jesus Christ visited the people of the Americas. As he told his disciples in John 10:16, "Other sheep I have, which are not of this fold: them also I must bring, and they shall hear my voice; and there shall be one fold, and one shepherd." As the god of all the earth, he visits all his people. In 2 Nephi 29: 6-11, he explains that he speaks to all nations and commands them to write his words. The Book of Mormon is his word to the ancient Americans.

  15. Hey Chuck (haha ^_^) If you go to mormon.org, go to the beliefs section, then click on Book of Mormon, at that page you can click and order a free copy of the Book Of Mormon ^_^ Hope this helps!

  18. You should group everyone into the same boat. Are all Christians, Muslims, or atheist guilty for the actions of one?

  19. You can read it on LDS.org

Also, if you submit your information through LDS.org they will send you one or the missionaries will bring one to you.

  20. @Witnicia Mira if the savior Jesus said watch out for false prophets, that implies there are some good ones too. Or else he would have said watch out for any prophets in the latter days.

  21. We are going to do some math simple math wich are actually part of metaphysic…ok ? an infinity of lines can pass through one point right ? But, when there is two points, how many line can we have ? only one. This is why we need a second book. In a trial, how many witnesses do you need ? At least 2. You can't know or understand the truth of anything without at least two elements. This is the same for the gospel. The book of mormon is this second witness of jesus christ.

  22. But i guess you need to read it to really understand that… Don't judge something before you know it.

  23. I know that this book is part of the word of God. It has brought me great peace and comfort in times of trial and sorrow. The teachings in it help me to become a better person and more like my Savior, Jesus Christ. It helps answer questions that I had about the Bible and on how to be saved. It does not replace the Bible, but complements it. I know this Church is the true Church of Jesus Christ. Without it, I wouldn't be who I am today. I testify these things in the name of Jesus Christ. Amen.

  24. I love how people put words in His mouth, pretending that this caveat says that they would all be false…grrr… 😀

  25. I could fall asleep listening to his scripture reading. Not out of boredom but because of the serenity in his reading of the scripture.

  26. I asked the lord to take me to his church when I was younger. Never would I have chosen this church if I was to seek a church with my own knowledge. The lord led me to this church in the most amazing circumstances, it has changed my life.

  27. Great conversion story. I love the Bible and I love the Book of Mormon. I have come to understand the reality of God and the mission of his son through my testimony of these two books. Thank you so much for sharing.

  28. To believe in this (or any other God-based religion), you have to be willing to ignore and sacrifice a lot of logic and sheer facts. If that's your way of living life, then so be it. If it makes you a better person, I'm all for it.

  29. It's not illogical to believe in God. And it's not a sacrifice of fact. But I would state that there are different forms of knowledge. Faith and belief in God is brought by a different form of knowledge. It is heavily experiential based, not one that can be easily redacted and broken down to quantitative measures (ie scientific). It's not ignoring or sacrificing, but balancing and broadening our own measure of truth and understanding.

  30. Your kinda strange aye. I think you may be in for a bit of a shock in later years when every knee shall bend and every tongue confess that Jesus is the Christ. Just because you may not have experienced these things doesn't mean they are not true. I would just be a little more careful and be a little more thoughtful and search a little better instead of blowing things off that you quite obviously don't know to much about, or you may be found really wanting later on in your life

  31. come here to utah you will find mormons everywhere its a great safe place to be visit the visitor's center. come down to herriman, riverton area its the safest place in utah (where I live) come to daybreak its the #1 town in utah it's beautiful. come visit please you will love it!

  32. what a great story and for someone who is not so good at reading your story really opened allot of doors and has strengthened my testimony about the truthfulness of the gospel…thank you for sharing

  34. Fascinating story told in these animations from the Book of Mormon! Question? Where would one find archaeological evidence to validate these events? Smithsonian, peer reviewed papers from experts in Egyptology or Meso-america archaeology? Surely there must be some slither of evidence somewhere – right?

I was Baptised I'm 2004 that is 13 years ago and have been in active for 10 I have made a lot of mistakes and have lost my way in the parth of God, I have stood by the side lines watching my fellow members being blessed and I falling deep in to sadness and misery.
