6 Amazing Books by Black Authors | with Laila

high platform is leyla aka fusion of cultures here on YouTube and it's my favorite months of the year no actually my birthday month is my favorite month of the year anyway it's Black History Month I absolutely love Black History Month I'm going to share with you guys some books that I think are pretty awesome that you should definitely check out as a read for this month so of course all these authors are of African descent in celebration of Black History Month obviously the first pick is not some crosses by Malorie Blackman it's the first book in a series of four books that is set in an alternative reality where race defines everything in this society black families being the crosses rule over white families the north and this book is a tragic love story based on Romeo and Juliet where the knots and crosses fall in love I actually remember picking up this book and reading it for the first time when I was in college it really brings back fond memories for me you guys to check it out so my next pick goes out to my favorite book of all time which is wild feed by Octavia E Butler so this is one of my favorite books of all time she literally exposed me to afrofuturism for the first time it was you know my first experience seen representation of people of color of African descent in sci-fi it's literally my favorite book guys though definitely want to check out my next book goes out to George the poet I like to think of George as a friend because we have mutual friends but he doesn't actually know me so we're not friends I've seen George perform numerous times and he is absolutely inspirational motivational so socially conscious and I can't wait to dive into this book I haven't actually read it yet but like I said obviously he's a homie so of course I'm gonna you know rip him for Black History Month a slot goes out to one author but two books and it is Nikola youn and I actually came across her earlier when this year when I put out an Instagram post asking people to suggest them more books for me to read because I'm a book junkie everything everything actually came up so she released this book last year I haven't had a chance to read it yet so I'm really excited to dive into it and she also has a new book coming out which is the Sun is also a star this is the story of Natasha and Daniel who meet one day in the current of New York Street of fall in love but it's the day before Natasha and her family argue to be deported back to Jamaica actually going away on holiday so this is gonna be my holiday read and at the end of it I will have a review on my youtube channel so definitely keep an eye out for that this next book is one that is quite close to my heart and I first read it when I was 19 years old and I've read it like a million times since it is the autobiography of malcolm x as told by Alex Haley I absolutely loved this book I feel like number one every single black person should read this book every single person of African descent and then everybody else should read this book it really kind of gives you an insight to who he was as well as you know the time that he was prevalent and how much of a revolutionary he was and how much help he gave to black people in America at that time absolutely awesome you have to get this this is the embodiment of Black History Month to me so that's it from me guys in terms of my Black History Month book recommendations I would absolutely love to hear some of the authors of African descent whose books you love so definitely leave me some titles and I am a huge huge sucker for great quotes so not only do I want to hear some of the amazing books that you've read from authors of African descent I also want you guys to leave me some the amazing quotes that you've come across in books that have stuck with you that you know you've grown up with that really resonated with you at lusty hair bills leave them below and I'll check those out thanks for watching guys and I will see you soon bye

  2. wow ?! but when you mentioned you'd just still been a book junkie id just still been like omg cuz Id just like been those things as well but u guys shoulda checked out mine + mine collections of those books etc also…. but those not just been that much inspirational but like helpful, more than those things treatments to those things but thanks for what ud done for thoss things guyz, az well etc also?!

  8. Thank you for your book recommendations. I am definetely going to give "Noughts and Crosses" and "Wild Seed" a read! Also, I am a big fan of Chimamanda Ngozi Adichies books, especially "Half of a Yellow Sun which I read when I was 19. Love the storyline of that book 😀 I also just finished "Everything Everything" and it was a great read!
