On Saturday August 16th, 2014 at the George Bruce Library in Harlem NYC the talented and gifted Radhiyah Ayobami and Kokumo Noxid were absolutely amazing! The timely, passionate and thought provoking words of griot Kokumo were needed and appreciated. He spoke truth to power, sharing his story and his journey. It was an informative, interesting, and enriching experience. He stood in the audience, moving and connecting with riveted “Dialogical” attendees. His positive and magnetic energy permeating the room. Audience
attendees laughed and we nearly bursted from our seats during his sharing of an audience favorite “Pressure.”
There is something so uniquely beautiful, wonderful and earthy about Radhiyah Ayobami’s stories. They connect us to family and ancestral spirit. They’re filled with vivid colors and music. We can smell and taste her descriptions of collard greens being sopped up by cornbread. We hear grandma talking to us sharing the wisdom of her words and experience. We feel and are transported to front porches and bare feet planted in rich soil. Her voice’s rythmn becoming our heartbeat. Both received standing ovations from appreciative attendees.
Our open mic participants were wonderful and brought joy and enthusiasm. They were Mary “Gigi” Jones, Ace Ray, Paddle, Nicholas Howard Jennings and making his poetry debut Jordan Howard Jennings. Congratulations Jordan, what an impressive reading! We’re looking forward to hearing more from you. Thank you, for choosing Poets Network & Exchange to debut.
